KC Softwares KCleaner is a free disk optimization tool capable of detecting the tiniest fragment of a junk or unneeded file and of presenting it to you for permanent deletion. Its automatic and expert modes guarantee that all users can benefit from this costless app regardless of their computer skills.

The automatic mode is perfect for those whose time is more valuable than a few log and temporary files. All they have to do is click on the “Start” button and wait for KCleaner to select and shred all unwanted files falling into the categories specified in the settings dialogue. There, you will find nearly forty file types associated with an activity (cookies, Windows log files, recent files, temporary Internet files, etc.), an Internet browser (Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc.), or a specific application (Skype installer cache, Google Earth cache, Adobe Reader cache, MSN Messenger, Dr Watson logs, etc.). You can also make some important choices about the way the program will get rid of the files selected – scrambling file names before deleting them, trimming them before deletion, and using either a faster or a more secure (yet slower) deletion method. Those who love to automate everything are also offered the possibility of checking the “Load at startup” option and forget about temporary, unwanted and junk files forever.

The manual mode works in a very similar way, though it allows you to check or uncheck manually all those junk files you want to get rid of or keep, respectively. It comes with some extra options that will let you clean and shut down, reboot, or close your system in one single operation. There is also an expert mode, which basically toggles on and off the list of junk files at the bottom of the main interface. You will find buttons for two more features – Shred Files and Disk Health. They’re links to the site with two other tools you will have to download and install to benefit from their functionality.
